Welcome to the Argus A/A2 Camera Page. This purpose of this site
is to promote the use of the Argus A family of cameras. The "family"
includes the Argus A, Argus AF, Argus AA, Argus A2B, Argus A2F, and
Argus FA.
Stylish, affordable, and economical,
this camera's effect on 35mm camera design cannot be
underestimated. Made in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it was the first
35mm camera built in America and more than half a million were
manufactured over the course of fifteen years. The popularity
of the Argus A ensured that the 35mm format would last to become the
dominant format in photography for over 50 years.
Why use an Argus A? Simple. They're plentiful
and cheap. They're vintage(1936-1951). They're easy to fix. They're
stylish and eye-catching. They use off-the-shelf 35mm film. Why not?
This site also contains a 75
page book called 35mm For The Proletariat: A Modern User's Guide
To The Argus A/A2 Camera. It is free to download and print
for personal use.
